CHRISTRIBUTE X NAGARA
Metropolis Remix
Event description: Participants in the Metropolis Remix event will showcase their artistic talent by choosing iconic locations in Bangalore and reimagining them with either retropunk or desi noir aesthetics. This will visualise the enchanting metamorphosis of the cityscape as familiar landmarks undergo a captivating blend of vintage allure and contemporary mystique, creating a spectacular visual tapestry that seamlessly intertwines the past and present.
The Leela Palace and Sterlings Mac

If we can define the city of Bangalore, the most appropriate one would be that this city is an amalgamation of multiple cultures, and its aesthetic is facilitated that way. And the perfect example would be the Leela Palace. A setting that is not just historical but also an ode to the heritage of Bangalore.
The Leela was founded by C.P. Krishnan Nair in 1986 as a chain of luxury hotels. Currently, it is owned by Brookfield Asset Management.
The reason we chose the street view of the architecture is not only because of the way The Leela is constructed but also because of the building opposite to it. The Sterling Mac Hotel is also a luxury inn that “competes” for its position. Both architectures are completely different from each other. The Leela gives the traditional Jodhpuri Royalty aesthetic, whereas The Sterling Mac is structured in a modern way.
Therefore it depicts that two completely different architectures can thrive simultaneously in a continuum space like Bangalore.
When we rethink it in a retro-punk setting, we use the multifaceted factor of the city itself to enhance three subgenres of punk, namely bubblegum, steam, and futuristic punk. The concept of retro is retained in the future, the Sterling Mac is reupholstered as a retro-punk architecture, whereas the Leela brings in the aspects of steampunk with its some-like structures and the use of warmer shades. The inclusion of neon blue in the metro and the cars depicts the futuristic incorporation of the retro setting. The trees are rethought as bubblegum flora, to bring about the childhood aspects of punk. As an ode to the negation of last letters like givin’ and goin’ back in the day, we have renamed the Sterling Mac as Sterlin’
Henceforth, this is our imagination of the contrasting setting of the Sterling Mac and the Leela Palace situated in the HAL old airport road as a Punk Setting.
